On August 13, 30 high school students visited the University of Ottawa Skills and Simulation Centre (uOSSC) for Learn2Lead, an initiative founded by University of Ottawa student Heeva Torabi to encourage more young women to pursue leadership roles in health care.
The program featured a panel discussion and Q&A with The Ottawa Hospital’s Dr. Susan Peddle, Kate Duke, Dr. Kathleen Gartke and Dr. Rebecca Auer, who shared insights from their careers and leadership experiences in health care.
Throughout the day, students also toured the uOSSC’s operating room and emergency department simulation spaces, explored the technology used to train health-care professionals, and participated in hands-on workshops, including suturing and CPR simulations.
By connecting students with health-care leaders and hands-on learning opportunities, Learn2Lead is helping inspire the next generation of women in medicine and health care.
