The Simulation Patient Safety Program (SPSP) at TOH is an interprofessional education program designed to enhance patient safety and health-care systems integration. Through in-situ simulations, health-care professionals from various disciplines come together to identify latent safety threats and test the robustness of our health-care system.
The program’s core objective is to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement, empowering teams to communicate effectively and manage crises efficiently. By practicing in real clinical settings, with the people we work alongside every day, we can directly translate insights gained from the simulations into enhancements to our day-to-day care.
Since the program’s inception in 2014, the feedback we’ve received from over 3,800 participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with many noting the program’s value in improving their preparedness for real-life emergencies. The program has also had a positive influence on developing TOH’s education programs and policies, thanks to the identification of knowledge and skill gaps in our sessions.
We offer numerous types of simulated scenarios, including:
- Cardiac arrest
- Anaphylaxis
- Code White
- Just culture
- Respiratory failure
- Obstetrical Code 333
- Massive transfusion protocol
By collaborating with our Simulation Educator team, we can create simulations that meet the specific needs of your team and clinical area!
