How the uOSSC Works

Much like the aviation industry uses flight simulators to train pilots, health care professionals use patient simulators for hands-on training and experience in how best to care for patients.

Simulation includes a wide range of education and research tools.  Part-task trainers are models made of plastic that imitate body parts with anatomical correctness. They allow health care professionals to practice procedures. Virtual reality trainers can be used to teach entire operations.  Full body mannequin simulators breathe, have pulses and heart sounds, and can talk.  Most importantly, they respond accurately to medications, fluids and chest compressions.  These computer driven mannequins can recreate patient care in hospital wards, the emergency room, the intensive care unit, and the operating room.  Simulation can provide the best “hands-on” education with no risk to patients for improved patient safety and continued world-class care.
