I wanted to take a moment to personally thank all of you for helping to execute this international conference. In the end, we had about 250 attendees from over 25 countries participating in this Summit which was held for the first time in North America. I have received feedback from many of the invited faculty and participants from all corners of the globe saying that the meeting was an excellent learning experience for them. They particularly enjoyed and learned from the live surgical cases and the discussions that ensued from them. For all those who worked in the OR, it was amazing to see the team come together to execute 6 live case

“I am compelled to write because of a recent clinical experience which so plainly highlighted the immediate benefit of the uOSSC’s non-technical simulation teaching program to a patient, a family, and resident. My simulation case was that of a preeclamptic patient with poor IV access who turned eclamptic; a very rare clinical reality. The clinical scenario was further complicated by an anxious partner.
Not a week later, I encountered the precise scenario while on call, when I was called out of the operating room to assess this particular patient myself. We stabilized the patient, maintained continuous assessment of fetal status, consulted the appropriate services, and organized emergent delivery of the infant. The outcome was good for both mother and baby. Throughout the clinical event, I found myself drawing on my experience at the simulation centre. My performance during the clinical event improved in a number of ways. Role definition and communication were much better defined during the actual event. The medical knowledge was present and the treatments were provided without delay.
In summary, I think that non-technical simulation is of great value. I am certain that, in my recent clinical experience, it was beneficial to a patient, her newborn, and her whole family. My recent experience illustrates to me the link between solid resident training and improved patient safety. Thank you to you and your team. Thanks for having me at the simulation centre.”
